Remastered 180-Gram Black Vinyl LP

This is Fiction Records' 2016 single-LP reissue of Pornography, carrying catalog number FIXD 7, the same number Fiction gave the original 1982 UK pressing. Robert Smith remastered the audio for this edition, and it is pressed on 180-gram black vinyl. The printed inner sleeve carries the lyrics and a band photograph. Fiction licenses the recording to Polydor, and this is an import pressing.

Pornography is the Cure's fourth studio album, first released by Fiction in 1982. It was the band's first record with producer Phil Thornalley and was made at RAK Studios in London, with Smith on vocals and guitar, Simon Gallup on bass and Lol Tolhurst on drums. It was Tolhurst's last album as the band's drummer and the first on which he also played keyboards. Smith has named the Psychedelic Furs' self-titled debut as the reference point for the album's dense sound.

The album entered the UK Albums Chart at No. 8, the Cure's first top-ten album in Britain, and "The Hanging Garden" followed as a single that July. Gallup left the band after the album's release, and the Cure turned to a brighter sound on the records that followed. Reviews at the time were largely unfavorable. Later assessments have been warmer: NME has called it "arguably the album that invented goth," and Mojo placed it at No. 83 on its list of 100 Records That Changed the World.
