Twelve previously unreleased recordings from the Cramps' October 1977 sessions at Ardent Studios in Memphis, with Alex Chilton producing. Those sessions are the ones that produced the band's first two singles and the 1979 Gravest Hits 12-inch; the material collected here stayed in the vault until now, and includes covers and early versions of songs that later reached record as part of Psychedelic Jungle.

The tapes were transferred by Brian Kehew. Henry Rollins selected the tracks, Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara engineered at Inner Ear Studios, and Pete Lyman mastered at Infrasonic Sound. Rollins' liner notes credit Larry Hardy of In The Red Records with pulling the reels out of the Cramps tape vault, and describe the mixes as Lux Interior and Poison Ivy's own.

Vengeance Records, the label Lux and Ivy ran themselves for the 1978 and 1979 singles, carries the release. Catalog number VEN 678. This pressing is standard black vinyl; the album was also issued on colored vinyl under separate barcodes.
