Crystal Clear 7-Inch Vinyl Single

This sealed 7-inch presses the Beatles' 2023 double A-side single on crystal clear vinyl. "Now and Then" runs 4:08 on side A, and the 2023 stereo mix of "Love Me Do" runs 2:23 on side AA, both at 45 RPM. The disc comes in a card picture sleeve with a die-cut white inner sleeve, and a printed insert carries the credits and liner notes. Apple Records issued it worldwide on November 3, 2023, under catalog number 0602448145864, which every 7-inch color of the single shares; each color has its own barcode.

John Lennon's home demo of "Now and Then" reached the other three in 1994, when Yoko Ono Lennon passed it to Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr along with his demos of "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love." Those two were completed with producer Jeff Lynne and came out as singles in 1995 and 1996 as part of The Beatles Anthology. The band recorded new parts and a rough mix for "Now and Then" at the same time, but the technology of the day could not separate John's voice from his piano cleanly enough to finish it, and the song was shelved.

McCartney and Starr took it up again in 2022, once John's vocal could be isolated. In the label's announcement, McCartney described hearing the result: "There it was, John's voice, crystal clear." The finished recording keeps the guitar parts George played in 1995 alongside new drums from Ringo and bass, guitar and piano from Paul.

Side AA is the original 1962 UK single version of "Love Me Do," with Ringo on drums, first produced by George Martin. Giles Martin, Paul Hicks and Sam Okell mixed it into stereo for this release, and Miles Showell is credited with mastering both sides.
