Anniversary Edition 180-Gram Black Vinyl LP, 2019 Stereo Mix

This pressing puts the seventeen-song album on one 180-gram black record, without the session takes and demos that fill the larger anniversary editions. The disc wears the Apple green-apple label and the catalog number 7791512.

Giles Martin and Sam Okell prepared the stereo remix heard here from the original eight-track session tapes, using the 1969 stereo mix that George Martin supervised as their reference. September 27, 2019 was the street date for the whole anniversary program.

That eight-track tape is the reason a remix was possible at all. Abbey Road was the first Beatles album recorded on eight-track machines rather than four-track, and the only one taped entirely through a solid-state desk, EMI's TG12345 Mk I. It was also the first Beatles album never issued in mono anywhere in the world, so stereo is the only form the record has ever taken.

The sessions ran from February 22 to August 20, 1969 at EMI, Olympic and Trident studios in London, and the final day was the last time all four members were in a studio together. George Harrison's Moog synthesizer carries the middle eight of "Because" and runs through "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" and "Here Comes The Sun." The album reached No. 1 in both the United States and the United Kingdom and has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. "Something" backed with "Come Together" followed in the United States on October 6, 1969 and became the first Beatles single to top the American chart with a song written by neither Lennon nor McCartney.

Apple Records first issued Abbey Road in 1969, in the United Kingdom on September 26 and in the United States on October 1.
