Dirty Hit's standard clear vinyl LP of Being Funny in a Foreign Language, catalog number DH02362, comes in a gatefold jacket with a printed insert. This 2026 pressing runs ten tracks, five to a side, and leaves off "Human Too," which Matty Healy removed from streaming services in November 2025, saying the change made the album "more how [he wants] it to be."

The album is the 1975's fifth, written by Healy and George Daniel and recorded mainly at Real World Studios in Wiltshire, with further sessions at Electric Lady Studios in New York. Early work with producer BJ Burton ended once the band began recording with Jack Antonoff, and with Antonoff they set out to keep the performances as live and as free of computers as they could, with Healy keeping full creative control.

Dirty Hit released the album on October 14, 2022. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, also topped the charts in Scotland, Ireland and Australia, reached the top ten in the United States, and was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2023 Brit Awards. "Part of the Band" was the lead single, followed by "Happiness," the video above, and five more singles.
