1973 US pressing, ABC Records ABCX-779, pressed at Pitman
ABC Records released Countdown To Ecstasy in 1973 as ABCX-779, and this copy was pressed that year at Columbia's plant in Pitman, New Jersey. Pitman copies carry a P stamped into the runout, the mark that separates them from ABCX-779 pressed at other plants.
The object
A single stereo LP on ABC's black label, with the boxed multicolor ABC logo and no copyright text printed around the label rim. The label matrices read ABCX-779-A and ABCX-779-B.
The edition was issued with a brown ABC/Dunhill inner sleeve and a separate lyric sheet. Design is credited to Dotty Of Hollywood and photography to Ed Caraeff.
Context
Album and pressing share 1973, which places this copy in the record's first year on sale rather than among the later ABC and MCA reissues. Gary Katz produced it and Roger Nichols engineered it, with recording at The Village Recorder and Caribou Ranch; guitarist Denny Dias carries the credit "Stereo Mixmaster General."
