1972 US pressing, ABC Records ABCX-758, pressed at RCA's Hollywood plant
ABC had ABCX-758 pressed at several plants in 1972, and this issue comes from RCA's Hollywood facility rather than Columbia's lines at Terre Haute or Santa Maria. The runouts recorded for it read ABCX 758 A-RE-1 H and ABCX 758 B-RE-1 H, and the trailing H is the letter associated with RCA Hollywood work.
The object
One stereo LP in a gatefold jacket. The black ABC labels carry the boxed ABC logo, the catalogue number to the left and "℗1972 ABC Records Inc." along the lower edge, with the sides marked Side A and Side B.
Two titles are shortened on the labels: side A's closing song appears as "Only A Fool" and the third song on side B as "Brooklyn". Robert Lockart is credited with the cover design and Tristan Fabriani with the liner notes.
Context
Pressing year and album year are both 1972, which puts this copy with the original ABC issues rather than the later ABC represses or the MCA reissue of 1979. Gary Katz produced the sessions at The Village Recorder, where Roger Nichols engineered with Tim Weston assisting.
The album
Can't Buy A Thrill, the first Steely Dan album, is covered as a work on its album page.
