This is the standard black vinyl LP of Out Into, the ninth album from Son Lux, issued on This Is Meru. City Slang carries the album in Europe under its own catalog number and barcode; this UPC is the This Is Meru edition. All nine tracks sit on a single 12-inch disc. The cover artwork is by Erin O'Keefe, with art direction by Rebekah and Eric Nolan and layout by Aaron Denton.

Out Into is the trio's first full-length since the Tomorrows albums of 2020 and 2021, and their first studio album since scoring A24's Everything Everywhere All at Once and Marvel's Thunderbolts*. The label counts two Oscar nominations and a BAFTA nomination for the Everything Everywhere work, including Best Original Score at the 95th Academy Awards. According to the band's own notes, the songs came together over two years in studio bursts between film projects, built up from collective improvisation. Ryan Lott has said: "These songs are about losing and finding ourselves. How we lose ourselves in relationships, in work, in our children, in our pursuits and desires."

"Endlessly" was the lead single in May 2026. The album opener, "Want You To Love," followed in July; Lott said it was built from improvised samples and that "the result feels more boom-bap than anything we've done in the past." The third single, "No God Like a King," began as a one-take performance by the band that was then stretched and slowed. Drummer Ian Chang has named the boom-bap era of hip-hop, and producers J Dilla and Madlib, as reference points the band admires.

Son Lux began in 2007 as the solo recording project of the American composer Ryan Lott. Guitarist Rafiq Bhatia and drummer Ian Chang joined as members in 2015, with the album Bones, and the trio followed it with Brighter Wounds in 2018 and the three-part Tomorrows. Their film work runs from The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby in 2014 to the Everything Everywhere All at Once soundtrack, whose 49 tracks include collaborations with Mitski, David Byrne, Andre 3000 and Randy Newman.
