40th Anniversary 3LP Box Set With Fire Splatter Vinyl And Live From Bochum 1985

Metal Blade's 40th anniversary box puts Hell Awaits on a single fire splatter LP in a gatefold jacket, mastered and restored from the original 1985 production tapes by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony in February 2025. Alongside it sits Live from Bochum 1985, a previously unreleased 18-song concert from the band's 1985 German dates, on two 180-gram black LPs in a second gatefold. The slip-lid box also holds a 60-page LP-size book with photos and liner notes by J. Bennett, a slipmat, two posters including a tour poster listing the German dates, a replica ticket for the Bochum show, a replica tour laminate, a replica Slatanic Wehrmacht fan club newsletter, a replica merch flyer and two flyers. The catalog number is 3984-16198-1, and the set was released on May 15, 2026.

Hell Awaits is Slayer's second album, released by Metal Blade on April 8, 1985, after the Haunting the Chapel EP. Brian Slagel and the band produced it at Eldorado Recording in Los Angeles, with Tom Araya on bass and vocals, Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman on guitars and Dave Lombardo on drums. Its seven songs run about 37 minutes, and three pass the six-minute mark, a turn away from the shorter songs of Show No Mercy; King has said that he and Hanneman were taken with Mercyful Fate's Melissa at the time. "It's the record where Slayer became Slayer," King says in the anniversary announcement.

The album did not chart on its first release. Slagel has said it has sold more than a million copies worldwide, and later reissues reached No. 8 on the German albums chart. AllMusic's Eduardo Rivadavia called it "incredibly ahead of its time." The video above is Metal Blade's unboxing of this set.

• Refund timing may vary depending on your payment provider

Chargebacks & Payment Disputes

We strongly encourage customers to contact us directly with any concerns before filing a credit card dispute or chargeback.

Once a dispute or chargeback has been initiated, we are unable to proceed with refunds, replacements, or reshipments until the case is fully resolved. Resolution timelines are controlled by the payment processor and can take up to 120 days.
