Simply Red - Men And Women (1987, Specialty Pressing)

This is the original US Elektra issue of Men And Women as pressed by Specialty Records Corporation, identified by its runout etchings and the letters E A S T around the side B center hole; the same catalog number was also pressed at Allied, whose copies carry a different runout set. Both sides were cut by Direct Metal Mastering at Sterling Sound, and every stamper reads DMM, STERLING and TJ, the initials of mastering engineer Ted Jensen.

The object

One 12-inch LP with label matrix numbers ST-E-60727-1-A and ST-E-60727-1-B and the barcode number 0 7559-60727-1 7. The runouts read STE 60727 A 4 DMM STERLING TJ on side A and STE 60727 B 4 DMM STERLING TJ SP on side B, followed by a stamper number. The record comes in a printed inner sleeve carrying photographs and lyrics.

Context

This is a 1987 first US issue, pressed the year the album came out. Alex Sadkin produced all but "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye," which Mick Hucknall and Yvonne Ellis produced at Yellow 2 in Stockport, and the mixes from RAK, Mayfair and Utopia in London went to Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in New York for mastering.
