Limited Edition Ultra-Clear Vinyl LP, Rhino Rocktober 2025

The Sex Pistols' only studio album, pressed on limited-edition ultra-clear vinyl and issued by Rhino on October 3, 2025 for its Rocktober 2025 program. That year Rocktober ran to 43 exclusive limited-edition vinyl titles sold through select brick-and-mortar record stores, with new ones arriving each Friday of the month, and this record was part of the opening set. The jacket is the North American pink cover, the band's name set on a green band below the title, and the white center labels divide the album into Side I and Side II.

The album was first issued by Virgin in the UK on October 28, 1977, and by Warner Bros. in the US that November. It was recorded at Wessex Sound Studios in London, and every track is credited jointly to producers Chris Thomas and Bill Price because the final versions combined mixes from different sessions. Glen Matlock, who co-wrote most of the songs, left the band early in the process and plays bass only on "Anarchy in the U.K."; Steve Jones covered bass on most of the record, and Sid Vicious, Matlock's replacement, is heard on "Bodies." Richard Branson settled the running order himself, putting all four of the band's singles on the LP over the objections of the band and its management.

Many stores refused to stock it and some charts printed a blank space where its title should have been. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart regardless, went gold on November 17, 1977, and spent 48 weeks in the top 75, and it has since been certified platinum by the RIAA. Rolling Stone's original review, quoted in the label's solicitation, called it "just about the most exciting rock & roll record of the Seventies," and the magazine placed it 41st on its 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list in 2003 and 2012, and 80th in 2020.
