Dennehy was issued in 2006 by Bonafyde Recordings on compact disc. Old Soul Music's twentieth anniversary edition puts it on vinyl, with its seventeen tracks and a little over sixty-two minutes of music cut across two 180-gram discs in a jacket with a 5mm spine.
Old Soul Music describes the record as an "answer to common complaints about hip-hop" and an attempt "to put the fun back in hip-hop," and credits the title track with introducing Kenny Dennis, the character Serengeti has returned to across much of his work since. The music is the original 2006 album throughout, not a re-recording.
The run is divided into four jacket-and-vinyl variants named for Chicago teams, Bears, Hawks, Sox and Bulls, each limited to 100 copies. They are supplied as an assortment, so the variant that arrives is not chosen at the time of order. Chicago sits in the artwork as well, which places its cartoon tailgater against the Soldier Field colonnade.
