Rush - Fly by Night (Numbered Vinyl)

Numbered 180 Gram 45 RPM Double LP

This is Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's numbered edition of Fly by Night, catalog number MFSL2-633. The 1975 album is cut at 45 RPM across two 180 gram LPs, which MoFi notes is the first time the record has been issued at that speed. The wider groove spacing is the reason for the format: MoFi cites improved tracking and better preservation of high frequencies. The set was pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing and comes in a Stoughton gatefold jacket with a bonus photo print.

Krieg Wunderlich mastered it from the original 1/4-inch, 15 IPS analog master tape, transferred to DSD 256 and passed through an analog console to the lathe. The title is part of a multi-year MoFi series made with Anthem Records and announced in July 2026, covering the band's albums from 1974 to 1985. Anthem's Andy Curran delivered the master tapes to MoFi in Sebastopol, California, by hand.

Fly by Night was the first Rush album with Neil Peart, who joined Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson on drums and became the band's lyricist. It was recorded at Toronto Sound in December 1974 and produced by the band with Terry Brown, and Mercury released it in February 1975. It reached No. 9 in Canada and is certified platinum in both the United States and Canada.

Mobile Fidelity's notes single out a detail on "By-Tor & the Snow Dog," the four-part piece that fills side two of this set: Lee's bass, its E string detuned, run through a Fuzz-Tone pedal and repeated through an Echoplex. The title song, in the video above, opens side three.
