Numbered 180 Gram 45 RPM Double LP

Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab's edition of Cold Fact is limited to 4,000 numbered copies: two 180 gram LPs cut at 45 RPM, catalog number MFSL2-501, pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing and housed in a Stoughton gatefold jacket. Krieg Wunderlich mastered it at MoFi's California studio, assisted by Neal Harris, working from a 1/4-inch, 15 IPS analog copy tape through DSD 256 and an analog console to the lathe. The twelve songs run three to a side.

Cold Fact was Rodriguez's debut album, released by Sussex Records in 1970. It was recorded at Tera-Shirma Studio in Detroit in August and September 1969, arranged and produced by Dennis Coffey and Mike Theodore. Coffey played electric guitar and bass, Bob Babbitt played bass and Andrew Smith played drums, with strings from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra led by Gordon Staples.

The record sold poorly in the United States but found its audience in South Africa and Australia, where, as MoFi recounts, Rodriguez was playing sold-out shows by the late 1970s. It reached No. 23 in Australia in 1978. The 2012 documentary Searching for Sugar Man, which won the Academy Award, told that story, and the album has since been certified platinum in Australia and gold in New Zealand.
