Profile Records' 1989 US twelve-inch of "Joy And Pain (Remix)", catalogue number PRO-7247: the original pressing, on the original label and number in the year the single came out. The deadwax on this copy reads "A-1 ⊳ PRO-7247-A MASTERDISK" on side A and "A-1 PRO-7247-B" on side B. The Masterdisk stamp on side A ties the cut to the release's Masterdisk mastering credit.
One black 12-inch disc at 33 1/3 RPM, in a yellow picture jacket billed on the front as the 12-inch single remix. The centre labels are Profile's black design with the red-and-white logo, dated 1989. The back cover lays out both sides with full credits, beside a small reprint of the It Takes Two cover, named as the source of the original versions.
The remix was done at Greene Street Recording in New York, with additional production and remix by William Hamilton, Rob Base and Gail "Sky" King, an edit by King, engineering by Dave Kowalski and remix engineering by Nick Sansano. Alongside the World to World remix, the record carries a dub without the rap, an a cappella and "Times Are Gettin' Ill".
The song comes from the duo's album It Takes Two, and as a single it reached number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100.
