Limited Edition Yellow Flame Vinyl LP

This is the Yellow Flame edition of Begin to Hope, a limited single-LP repressing from Sire Records first issued on May 16, 2025. The record runs six songs to a side, with "Fidelity" opening Side A and "Après Moi" opening Side B. The jacket keeps the original artwork, and its back panel credits Sire Records, marketed by Warner Records, with the disc made in the Netherlands.

Begin to Hope was Spektor's fourth album, first released on June 13, 2006. It was her first collaboration with David Kahne, who produced, engineered and mixed it with Spektor as co-producer. Its predecessor, 2004's Soviet Kitsch, had been recorded live to tape. The label's notes describe this one widening the arrangements with synthesizers, drum machines, electronic loops and layered vocal harmonies. Nick Valensi plays guitar on "Better," Zhao Gang plays erhu on "Field Below," Ralph U. Williams adds saxophone to "Lady," and Shawn Pelton drums on six tracks. "Samson" is a new recording of a song Spektor first released on her 2002 album Songs.

The album entered the Billboard 200 at No. 70 and climbed to No. 20 as "Fidelity" caught on. Rolling Stone placed it 21st among the albums of 2006, and it was nominated for that year's Shortlist Music Prize. Its songs have traveled since: Peter Gabriel recorded "Après Moi" for his 2010 orchestral album Scratch My Back, and "That Time" appears in Martin McDonagh's 2008 film In Bruges.
