Walt Disney Records presses the Toy Story 5 soundtrack on two 12-inch picture discs: disc one is printed with Woody's hat and disc two with Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger chest plate. The gatefold jacket is designed around the two characters' outfits and holds illustrated sleeves, one of them printed with the lyrics to "I Knew It, I Knew You."

The album pairs twenty-six tracks of Randy Newman's score with "I Knew It, I Knew You," an original song Taylor Swift wrote and produced with Jack Antonoff. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard Global 200.

Newman recorded the score at the Sony Pictures Scoring Stage, conducting alongside his cousin Joey Newman, with orchestrations by Don Davis. The cues return to the themes of "You've Got a Friend in Me" and "When She Loved Me." Andrew Stanton directed the film, with Kenna Harris as co-director; Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack return as Woody, Buzz and Jessie, and Greta Lee voices Lilypad, the new tablet device the toys come face-to-face with.

Newman has scored every Toy Story film since the first in 1995. Both of his Academy Awards came from Pixar films, for "If I Didn't Have You" from Monsters, Inc. and "We Belong Together" from Toy Story 3. He was named a Disney Legend in 2007 and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
