180 Gram Black Vinyl 20th Anniversary Remaster

The standalone LP from Sony's XX anniversary campaign: the 1992 debut remastered on 180 gram vinyl, with the original packaging reproduced and no bonus tracks. The demo tape, B-sides and Finsbury Park footage that the campaign is known for sit on the box and CD tiers, not on this record.

The band recorded it at Sound City in Van Nuys, Scream in Studio City and Industrial Recording in North Hollywood over April and May 1992, with Garth Richardson producing alongside the band, Andy Wallace mixing and Bob Ludwig mastering at Masterdisk. Zack de la Rocha sang, Tom Morello played guitar, Tim Commerford played bass and Brad Wilk played drums, and the sleeve states plainly that no samples, keyboards or synthesizers were used anywhere on it — which is the claim most people check twice.

The album reached No. 45 on the Billboard 200 and the RIAA has certified it three times platinum.

The cover crops Malcolm Browne's 1963 photograph of the Buddhist monk Thích Quảng Đức, who burned himself to death in Saigon in protest at the Diệm government's treatment of Buddhists.
