Black Vinyl 2LP Gatefold

The Black Sessions Revealed is a double LP on black vinyl in a gatefold jacket, catalog number CR01617, issued by Craft Recordings under exclusive license from R.E.M./Athens L.L.C. It holds the complete 17-song set R.E.M. played in Paris on May 7, 2001, recorded by Radio France for The Black Sessions and, according to Craft, never released before in any form. The same set appears in the 2CD and Blu-ray 25th-anniversary edition of Reveal, and a neon pink pressing sold through the band's own store is a separate edition.

The session took place days before Reveal came out. Six of its songs were from the then-unreleased album, among them "Imitation Of Life," "All The Way To Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star)" and "I'll Take The Rain," set beside older songs from "So. Central Rain (I'm Sorry)" and "The One I Love" to "Losing My Religion" and "Man On The Moon." Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Mike Mills were joined by touring musicians Scott McCaughey on guitar, Ken Stringfellow on keyboards and Joey Waronker on drums.

Reveal was the band's second album as a trio, after drummer Bill Berry left in 1997. Pat McCarthy produced it with the band, with sessions in Athens, Vancouver, Dublin and Miami, and on its release in May 2001 it debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and reached No. 1 in the UK. The video above is the live "Imitation Of Life" from this set, published by the band.
