[PREORDER] Car Seat Headrest - Teen of Denial: Joe's Story

Teen of Denial: Joe's Story is Will Toledo's reworking of Teens of Denial, the Car Seat Headrest album that broke the band. It came out digitally on May 20, 2026, ten years to the day after the original, and arrives on physical formats October 16, 2026 via Matador.

On the original record Toledo used the name "Joe" as a stand-in for himself, borrowed from Daniel Johnston's Hi, How Are You?. Returning to the album for its anniversary, he found a story running through the sequence and set about giving Joe a backstory: some songs fell away, others were given new lyrics, and the band went back into the studio with Teens producer Steve Fisk to revise arrangements and cut new material in the same style, including "Optimistic Son" and "Joe Drives Again." The overdubs were punched in through the same gear at Fisk's house in Tacoma, a decade on from the first sessions.

The release is part of Matador's Revisionist History series. This edition is a gatefold 2LP with new artwork, also available on CD.
