Rhino Reserve 180 Gram Black Vinyl LP

This edition of Good God's Urge belongs to Rhino Reserve, Rhino's line of single-LP reissues on 180-gram black vinyl, and was issued as one of the label's Rocktober 2026 titles for brick-and-mortar record stores. Most of that year's Reserve titles were cut by Matthew Lutthans at the Mastering Lab. This one is an exception, shared only with Nada Surf's High/Low: its lacquers were cut by Jeff Powell at Take Out Vinyl. The jacket sticker credits the pressing to Fidelity Record Pressing in California.

Good God's Urge was the second and final studio album by Porno for Pyros, the band Perry Farrell and Stephen Perkins formed after the first break-up of Jane's Addiction. Warner Bros. first released it in 1996, and it reached No. 13 on the Billboard 200. The songs came out of two years of surf trips to Tahiti, Indonesia, Samoa, Costa Rica and Mexico, which turned the band toward a more acoustic sound. Recording took place at Shangri-La in Malibu, with Farrell, Thomas Johnson and Matt Hyde producing.

Guitarist Peter DiStefano returns from the debut. Mike Watt plays bass, on his only album with the band, after Martyn LeNoble left before his parts were finished. Daniel Ash, David J and Kevin Haskins of Love and Rockets appear on "Porpoise Head", and Dave Navarro and Flea join on "Freeway". The album produced three singles: "Tahitian Moon", "100 Ways" and "Dogs Rule the Night". John Eder photographed the cover.
