The Dead Oceans CD of Stranger In The Alps, catalog number DOC142, carrying all eleven tracks including the closing "Smoke Signals (Reprise)" that some listings leave off.
Phoebe Bridgers' debut album was recorded at Zeitgeist in Brentwood, Los Angeles, across 2016, between tours, and released on September 22, 2017. Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska produced it. Mike Mogis mixed it at ARC Studios in Omaha, and Bob Ludwig mastered it at Gateway Mastering in Portland, Maine.
The band on the record is Marshall Vore on drums, Harrison Whitford on guitar, Gabe Noel on cello and bass and Greg Leisz on pedal steel, with string arrangements by Rob Moose and violin by Gabe Witcher. Conor Oberst sings on "Would You Rather," and John Doe also appears.
"Killer" came first, in April 2015, followed by "Smoke Signals" in January 2017, "Motion Sickness" — heard above — that July and "Funeral" ten days before the album. It reached number 82 on the Billboard 200 and number six on Top Alternative Albums, and is certified gold by both the RIAA and the BPI. Bridgers took the title from a television edit of The Big Lebowski, calling the altered line "poetic on accident."
