Indie Exclusive Clear With Red, White & Blue Splatter Vinyl LP

This is the Indie Exclusive pressing of Outlaw Country: Live From Austin, TX, catalog number NW7070LP from New West Records: a single 150-gram LP on clear vinyl splattered with red, white and blue. The fourteen songs run seven to a side. The standard edition is on 150-gram black vinyl, and the label notes that this is the first time the performance has been issued on vinyl.

The recording comes from the Austin City Limits stage on September 22, 1996, where Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, Billy Joe Shaver and Kimmie Rhodes sat together for a guitar pull, the country tradition the label describes as an informal, round-robin session in which songwriters take turns sharing songs. Everyone plays acoustic guitar. Nelson, Jennings and Kristofferson were three of the four members of the Highwaymen.

Per the label, Nelson and Kristofferson trade verses on "We Don't Run," Shaver sings "First and Last Time" unaccompanied, Jennings sings "Just Watch Your Mama and Me," and the whole circle closes the set together on "On the Road Again." Elsewhere Nelson takes "Too Sick to Pray," Jennings "I Do Believe," Shaver "You Just Can't Beat Jesus Christ" and Rhodes "Espiritu Santo Bay."

New West first released the performance in 2006, on CD and DVD, as part of its Live From Austin, TX series, which draws on artists' appearances on Austin City Limits.
