Drama on compact disc, in a jewel case, released by Sun Records as catalog number SUN8201. The disc carries ten songs and runs 42 minutes and 11 seconds.

Chris Isaak founded Wicked Game Records, the imprint issuing the album with Sun, and signed Atkins to the label. "I've been singing with Chris Isaak for almost 20 years and this song is the first time we've committed our voices to tape together," she has said of their duet "Cue The Symphony," which she calls the "sadness but sexy" centerpiece of the record. The song took shape in about ten minutes, talking on Isaak's porch during a rainstorm.

Atkins has described the album as "almost like my fight against loneliness," with many of its songs coming out of the long-distance relationship she and her husband keep. "When The Night Falls," heard above, was written with her old friend Emery Dobyns; she has said its chords reminded her of something she would have written for her first album.

That first album, Neptune City, came out on Columbia in 2007 and reached No. 20 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. Mondo Amore (2011), Slow Phaser (2014), Goodnight Rhonda Lee (2017), Italian Ice (2020) and Memphis Ice (2021) followed, Italian Ice recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama.
