Transparent Yellow Vinyl LP

Integral's 2026 reissue of Chelsea Girl is a limited single LP pressed on transparent yellow vinyl. The jacket reproduces the original front cover, with the Verve logo in the corner.

Chelsea Girl was Nico's first solo album. She recorded it at Mayfair Recording in Manhattan in April and May of 1967, soon after singing on The Velvet Underground & Nico, and Verve released it that October with Tom Wilson producing. The title points to Andy Warhol's 1966 film Chelsea Girls, in which she appeared.

Three Velvet Underground members play on it. Lou Reed adds electric guitar to four songs and Sterling Morrison to two, while John Cale plays viola, organ and guitar. Reed and Cale wrote "Little Sister," Cale wrote "Winter Song," the two of them wrote "It Was a Pleasure Then" with Nico, and Reed and Morrison wrote "Chelsea Girls." Jackson Browne wrote or co-wrote three songs, "These Days" among them, and plays guitar on five tracks; Bob Dylan's "I'll Keep It with Mine" and Tim Hardin's "Eulogy to Lenny Bruce" complete the set.

Wilson had Larry Fallon add string and flute arrangements without consulting Nico. "I didn't like [the strings], but I could live with them," she said later, and of the flute: "The first time I heard the album, I cried and it was all because of the flute." The album is included in 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, and Pitchfork rated it 8.9.
