Black Vinyl Double LP

Seeland 034LP is the double-vinyl edition of The World Will Decide, the fourteenth studio album by Negativland, issued in 2020 on the band's own Seeland Records. Its fifteen tracks are spread over four sides, and the eight-and-a-half-minute "Attractive Target" takes side C on its own.

Seeland's notes for the album promise complete lyrics, and the label's mockup of this edition shows them printed across the two inner sleeves. The cover and disc-label paintings are by Dan Lynch, a longtime Negativland collaborator, and continue the visual story that began on the artwork for True False.

The record is the second of two interconnected albums and the mirror image of 2019's True False: where that album dealt with the human difficulty of defining reality, this one turns to the technologies built to do the job instead. Seeland notes that it was "entirely finished before disinfecting your groceries became a perfectly normal thing to do."

Negativland composed, performed, produced, recorded, mixed and edited it. For this project the group is Mark Hosler, David Wills, Jon Leidecker and Peter Conheim, alongside the late Don Joyce, Richard Lyons and Ian Allen. Wills, known on Negativland records as The Weatherman, sings lead on four tracks, one of them an extended argument with his own phone over whether it is safe to go outside. Guests include Prairie Prince of The Tubes, Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt of Matmos, Ava Mendoza, Jem Doulton, Nava Dunkelman, Steve Fisk, Erich Hubner, Tom Dimuzio, Kyle Bruckmann and Kristin Erickson. Found-sound tapes from the band's earliest years run through the mix, including samples Seeland says regular listeners of the Over the Edge radio show will recognize.

"Don't Don't Get Freaked Out" was the first single, released with a music video on the band's channel, and the band also promoted the release with a Chrome browser extension. The New Yorker, quoted by the label, named the record's target as "surveillance and the lack of self in an Internet hellscape."
