Chess 75 Series Mono 180 Gram Vinyl LP in Tip-On Gatefold Jacket

This is the mono Chess 75 Series pressing of The Best of Muddy Waters, part of the audiophile vinyl program Chess Records launched for its 75th anniversary. It was one of two titles that opened the series on October 17, 2025, alongside Howlin' Wolf's Moanin' in the Moonlight.

Matthew Lutthans mastered it all-analog from the original analog tapes at The Mastering Lab at Blue Heaven Studios, and it is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings. The tip-on gatefold jacket, printed on high-grade board, reproduces the front and back covers of the 1958 original, keeps Studs Terkel's liner notes, and opens to two photographs of Waters. The front of the sleeve carries the original catalog number, Chess LP 1427.

Chess first issued The Best of Muddy Waters in April 1958. It was Waters' first LP and the third album Chess released on the long-playing format, gathering twelve sides first issued as singles between 1948 and 1954, most of which reached Billboard's R&B top 10. Leonard and Phil Chess are credited as producers. The players include Little Walter on harmonica, Jimmy Rogers on guitar and Otis Spann on piano, with Willie Dixon, who wrote and played bass on "I Just Want to Make Love to You," "I'm Ready" and "(I'm Your) Hoochie Coochie Man." The Blues Foundation inducted the album into its Hall of Fame as a Classic of Blues Recording in 1983.
