The CD edition holds the full twelve-song running order of Crisco on one disc, beginning with "Snakeskin Boots," Lambert's duet with Ella Langley. Lambert has said the song was written with Langley in mind, calling the two of them "kindred spirits." She and co-producer Jesse Frasure built it around late-1960s cinematic Westerns, with Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang" as one reference point.

Lambert wrote the record with longtime collaborators including Natalie Hemby, her Pistol Annies bandmate Ashley Monroe, Waylon Payne, Aaron Raitiere and Josh Osborne. "Till The Going's Gone," released as a single on June 26, 2026, credits Frasure, Hemby, Osborne and Brendan McLoughlin as co-writers alongside her. The title track came out ahead of it, and "A Song To Sing" with Chris Stapleton gave the album the biggest streaming debut of Lambert's career.

"I've always loved every corner of country music," Lambert said when the album was announced. "The heartbreak songs, the honky-tonk songs, the songs that make you think and the songs that make you dance. Making this record reminded me that those things don't have to be separated."

Crisco follows Postcards From Texas, her 2024 album, which peaked at No. 8 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.
