Minus The Bear - Bands Like It When You Yell "YAR!" At Them (Puget Sound Vinyl)

This is the first time Bands Like It When You Yell "YAR!" At Them has been pressed on vinyl. Suicide Squeeze had it remastered for the format by Bernie Grundman, who cut the lacquers at 45 RPM, and pressed 1,000 copies on Puget Sound-colored vinyl. The 12-inch comes with a polylined inner sleeve and a download card. The label also sells a San Juan Sands colorway under a separate barcode.

The five songs began as a promotional sampler rather than a record. Minus the Bear, a Seattle band that played its first show three days after September 11, 2001, followed its debut EP with a promo CD to build anticipation for its first full-length, Highly Refined Pirates, which Suicide Squeeze released in November 2002. The sampler's title is a nod to that album's name, and it came in a cardboard slipcase. Suicide Squeeze later repackaged it in a jewel case and sold it as a proper EP in 2004.

Three of the five tracks also appear on Highly Refined Pirates, all of them from that album's second half: "Spritz!!! Spritz!!!," "Women We Haven't Met Yet" and, here in demo form, "I Lost All My Money At The Cock Fights." The other two are a short instrumental and an exclusive song, "Drop It Like It's Hot," which the label notes arrived two years before Snoop Dogg's single of the same name. Suicide Squeeze's own notes compare the EP's path to Nirvana's Hormoaning: a promotional item first, a proper release later.
