Blue Seashore Vinyl, National Album Day 2026 Edition

This pressing of Tubular Bells was made for National Album Day 2026 in the UK, where the record sits in the event's Icons & Inspirations line-up. The disc is a blue "seashore" splatter. Its catalog number, V2001 50LPNAD, is a code issued only for this National Album Day release, and it is printed on the hype sticker that UK copies carry on the shrink wrap.

The cut uses Miles Showell's half-speed master, made at Abbey Road Studios in 2023 for the album's 50th anniversary, and the runouts on both sides are inscribed "MILES. ABBEY ROAD 1/2 SPEED." Inside the picture sleeve the disc sits in a black poly-lined inner sleeve. According to Discogs, the record was manufactured in Germany, and European copies distributed outside the UK come without the National Album Day sticker. Each side holds one movement, Part One on side one and Part Two on side two.

Tubular Bells was Mike Oldfield's debut. It came out on 25 May 1973 as the first catalog release on Virgin Records. Oldfield was 19 when recording began at The Manor in Oxfordshire, and he played almost every instrument himself through layered overdubs, co-producing with Tom Newman and Simon Heyworth. Vivian Stanshall introduces the instruments one by one in the finale of Part One. After the opening piano motif was used in The Exorcist, the album went to No. 1 in the UK in October 1974 and reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200. It won the 1975 Grammy for Best Instrumental Composition and entered the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2018.
