Mad Decent's 2024 double LP of Guns Don't Kill People... Lazers Do, catalog number MAD594V, put the original album back on vinyl for the first time in 15 years. Thirteen tracks run across four sides, from "Hold The Line" to "Jump Up."
This is Major Lazer's debut album, produced by Diplo and the British producer Switch, the duo behind the project at the time. It draws heavily on Jamaican dancehall, with guest vocalists including Vybz Kartel, T.O.K., Mr. Vegas, Turbulence and Ms. Thing alongside Santigold, Amanda Blank and Nina Sky. The cover art is by Ferry Gouw.
Downtown Records first released it on June 16, 2009. It reached No. 7 on Billboard's Top Electronic Albums chart and No. 4 on Top Heatseekers. "Pon De Floor," with Vybz Kartel, became its breakout single and later served as the framework for Beyoncé's "Run the World (Girls)."
