This is the blue marble pressing of Melting Days, catalog number GI497LP-C1 on Ghostly International. The ten tracks sit on a single 12-inch LP, five to a side, cut at 33 rpm; the packshot shows a pale disc streaked through with blue. Ghostly released the album digitally on August 21, 2026, a month ahead of the vinyl.

Ghostly counts Melting Days as the tenth Lusine full-length. It follows Long Light from 2023, which the label describes as among his most collaborative, song-forward albums; in the label's words, Melting Days returns Jeff McIlwain to his minimalist roots. The label frames the ten pieces around loss and transition. McIlwain has said: "When you're moving through grief, it's as if you're watching your previous life get foggier and foggier."

Bryan Manzo plays saxophone on the opening and closing tracks, "Sightline" and "Uncharted." Trent Moorman's drums appear as samples, and "Apparition" is built in part from cello run through a series of filters. The label's notes name Susumu Yokota's Sakura, the mid-2000s records of Mountains, and early Aphex Twin, Seefeel and Locust as touchstones, with McIlwain's own 2007 album Language Barrier as the nearest precedent in his catalog. "Pendulum," which opens side B, was the first single, followed by "Bird's Eye." On his arrangements, McIlwain has said: "It's hard for me to let a track just sort of stay where it is. I want to build momentum."

Lusine is the recording name of Jeff McIlwain, born in Dallas in 1975 and based in Seattle since 2002. He has released on Ghostly International since the 2000s, including Serial Hodgepodge (2004), A Certain Distance (2009), The Waiting Room (2013) and Sensorimotor (2017). Alongside the albums he has co-composed film scores with David Wingo, among them Snow Angels (2007), The Sitter (2011) and Joe (2013).
