This is the United States stereo issue of Louis, released by Mercury in 1966 under catalogue number SR 61081. That number is stamped into the dead wax on both sides, reading SR 61081-A-M1 and SR 61081-B-M1. Mercury issued the same program in mono as MG 21081.

A single LP, housed in a jacket carrying Philippe Halsman's photograph of Armstrong with his trumpet. A strip across the top of the front reads Mercury, Stereo SR 61081. The front also prints all twelve titles, a panel naming Mame as the title song from the Broadway show, and a small Printed in U.S.A. line along the left edge.

Album and pressing share a year: Louis came out in 1966, and this copy is the stereo edition of that first release. Mercury built the record around its Mame single and reused the Halsman portrait that had run on the cover of Life in April 1966.

Louis gathers nearly all of the recordings Armstrong made for Mercury between 1964 and 1966.
