Little Milton was a Mississippi-born singer, guitarist and songwriter who came to Chess in the early 1960s through its Checker imprint. We're Gonna Make It, issued in 1965 as Checker LPS-2995, is the album that made the case for what he brought with him: blues phrasing carried on arrangements that were already reaching toward soul.

The title track spent three weeks at the top of the R&B chart and was the only Top 40 pop entry of his career. The label's own notes describe it as an anthem for the growing civil rights movement.

The rest of the record works the same seam. "Who's Cheating Who?" and "Blind Man" sit alongside "I'm Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town" and "Blues In The Night," and the record closes on "Life Is Like That" and "Ain't No Big Deal On You."

Chess reissued it in 2026 for the Acoustic Sounds Series. The tapes are the originals, remastered by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab; the record is cut to 180 gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings and housed in a tip-on gatefold jacket on high-grade board, with two archival portraits of Milton inside.
