Die Kanone is Laibach's German-language reworking of "Top" ("The Cannon"), the debut single Bijelo Dugme released in 1974, made in collaboration with Bijelo Dugme to mark that band's 50th anniversary. Mute issued the song as a digital single in July 2025. This EP on Matrix Music Arhiv is its first physical release, pressed here on limited green vinyl; a standard black edition carries the same six tracks.

Side A pairs the German version with the Slovenian-language "S topom te bom ciljal moja mala" ("I'll Aim My Cannon at You, My Little One"), also on a physical format for the first time, and a remix by the German industrial and EBM act Die Krupps. Side B holds previously unreleased versions by UK producer the Lincolnshire Poacher and the Slovenian-Croatian electronic duo Black Dot, and closes on a live recording made at the Ljubljana Opera with the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra.

Laibach formed on June 1, 1980, in Trbovlje, then an industrial town in Yugoslavia and today in Slovenia, and in 1984 initiated the Neue Slowenische Kunst collective with the painters of Irwin and the theater group Scipion Nasice Sisters. Matrix Music Arhiv's notes describe Die Kanone as a commentary on the shifting relationship between industry, technology and militarization, in which the automobile factories of one era become the military-industrial landscape of the next.
