This reissue spreads Royal Highness across two black vinyl LPs, with the album's 17 tracks split over four sides. Capitol lists it as a black vinyl 2LP, and the label's notes describe the album as the one that "laid the foundation for the rip-hop movement," blending punk rock, hip-hop, acoustic and psychedelic influences from Southern California.

Royal Highness was the group's debut studio album, released on August 11, 1998, through Suburban Noize and Capitol. Member Daddy X produced it and served as executive producer, with Mellow B. De Lear, Marco Forcone, Dog Boy and I Timothy also producing. Sessions took place at A&M Studios in Hollywood, Can-Am Recorders, the Ogden House and 1605 Studios in Huntington Beach, and Too Rude and Humble Gods appear as guests.

The album reached No. 17 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart, and "Bump" reached No. 28 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. "Suburban Life" was on the soundtrack to Scream 2 and is heard briefly in the film itself, while "Dog's Life" was on the soundtrack to Lost and Found.

D-Loc and Saint Dog founded Kottonmouth Kings in Placentia, California, and the lineup on Royal Highness was Daddy X, D-Loc and Saint Dog on vocals, Lou Dog on drums and percussion, and DJ Bobby B. The group describes its 2026 EP California Burning as its first release through a new label partnership with Virgin Music Group.
