Tangerine & Aqua Splatter Vinyl LP, 2020 US Reissue

This is the US edition of Love Gun on tangerine and aqua splatter vinyl, issued by UMe on the Mercury and Casablanca labels on November 13, 2020 under catalog number B0032462-01. It was first sold as a Walmart exclusive, with a Walmart hype sticker naming the colorway, and copies with the same barcode were sold again in December 2024 through the band's online store under a different sticker. GZ Media pressed the single LP from lacquers cut by Ron McMaster (side A) and Ian Sefchick (side B) after mastering at 4th Floor Studios in New York. It comes with a printed inner sleeve designed by Dennis Woloch, carrying photography by David Spindel.

Casablanca first issued the album, the band's sixth in the studio, in June 1977. It was recorded at the Record Plant in New York during May of that year, with Eddie Kramer producing alongside the band and Corky Stasiak sharing engineering duties, and it was mixed at Electric Lady Studios. Ken Kelly painted the front cover, and the original 1977 package included a cardboard gun for the buyer to assemble.

Its songwriting is spread across the lineup: Paul Stanley wrote "I Stole Your Love," "Tomorrow and Tonight" and the title track; Gene Simmons wrote "Christine Sixteen," "Got Love for Sale," "Almost Human" and "Plaster Caster"; Ace Frehley wrote "Shock Me"; and Peter Criss wrote "Hooligan" with Stan Penridge. The album closes on "Then She Kissed Me," a song by Ellie Greenwich, Jeff Barry and Phil Spector. "Christine Sixteen" was released as a single on June 1, 1977, and "Love Gun" followed on July 31.
