1982 US pressing, Mango MLPS 9712, pressed by Hauppauge Record Manufacturing
This is the 1982 American issue of Juju Music on Mango, catalog number MLPS 9712, with lacquers cut at Sterling Sound and discs pressed by Hauppauge Record Manufacturing in New York. Island Records Inc. is credited alongside Mango as record company on MLPS 9712, with the recording licensed from Antilles Communications.
The object
Both sides of the deadwax carry an etched double-headed arrow beside the matrix, the mark of a Hauppauge pressing, and a stamped STERLING. The labels read MLPS 9712 A and MLPS 9712 B. The etched number ahead of the arrow varies between copies of this issue - B-1, A-1 and B-2 all occur on side A - and some side B stampers add HRM after the matrix. Cover design on the Mango jacket is credited to Bruno Tilley and photography to Adrian Boot.
Context
Juju Music and this Mango LP both carry 1982, which places it ahead of the Mango reissues of 1983 and 1988 that kept the MLPS 9712 number. Martin Meissonnier produced the sessions at Otodi Studio, and Godwin Logie mixed them at Island Studios with King Sunny Adé.
