180 Gram Black 2LP Reissue With Bonus Track

This is the 2008 Aware/Columbia double-LP edition of Continuum, catalog number 88697 27976 1, cut onto two 180-gram records. It is the vinyl counterpart of the 2008 repackaging that placed "Say" directly on the album, so thirteen songs run across four sides: three to a side through Side C, with Side D closing on "Say". The front sleeve is plain white, carrying a glossy white print of Mayer.

Mayer wrote "Say" for Rob Reiner's 2007 film The Bucket List. It was the first commercial single of his career that had not first appeared on one of his albums, and it went on to win Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 51st Grammy Awards.

Continuum was Mayer's third studio album, first issued in 2006, and the label's notes describe it as his first turn as producer. Drummer Steve Jordan produced alongside him and bassist Pino Palladino plays throughout; the three had toured the year before as the John Mayer Trio, and "Gravity" and "Vultures" had already appeared in live form on that group's Try!. Sessions took place at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, Avatar Studios and Right Track/Sound on Sound in New York City, and Royal Studios in Memphis.

"Bold as Love" is the first Jimi Hendrix song Mayer released as a studio recording, and 8-string guitarist Charlie Hunter joins him on "In Repair". The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and won Grammys for Best Pop Vocal Album and, for "Waiting on the World to Change", Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. In 2020 Rolling Stone placed it at No. 486 on its list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
