1980 US pressing, Geffen GHS 2001, pressed by Monarch
Geffen Records released Double Fantasy in the US on November 17, 1980 as GHS 2001, and this copy was pressed by Monarch Record Mfg. Co. The side A deadwax carries marks from four companies: Allied Record Company's lacquer number, Sterling Sound's stamp, Sheffield Lab Matrix's triangle 530, and Monarch's triangle 24916.
The object
George Marino mastered the record at Sterling Sound. The side A runout is etched with the matrix GHS-1-2001, Allied's number B-15413, the triangle 530 and Monarch's triangle 24916, and STERLING is stamped; side B carries GHS-2-2001. The label sits inside a depressed, muffin-shaped pressing ring, which is Monarch's; Allied was still using a smaller flat ring at the time.
The back cover of this issue prints the running order incorrectly. The labels have it right, and the tracklist below follows the labels.
Context
This Monarch copy dates from the album's release year, 1980. Jack Douglas produced the record with John Lennon and Yoko Ono at the Hit Factory in New York, and Kishin Shinoyama took the cover photograph.
