Motown's reissue presents Diary of a Mad Band on a single black LP, keeping the album's original twelve-song sequence across two sides. "Success," a bonus track on the original CD, is not part of it. Motown's notes quote Complex describing the album as "sensual...and sexy."

Jodeci's second album was released on December 21, 1993, by Uptown Records through MCA. The group was two pairs of brothers, K-Ci and JoJo Hailey and Donald "DeVanté Swing" and Dalvin "Mr. Dalvin" DeGrate, and DeVanté Swing and Mr. Dalvin produced the album, recorded between July and November 1993 at the Hit Factory and Chung King Studios in New York.

It reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200, spent two weeks at No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and is certified double platinum by the RIAA. "Cry for You," the video above, was released on November 23, 1993, and went to No. 1 on the R&B chart and No. 15 on the Hot 100. "Feenin'" followed at No. 2 R&B and No. 25 on the Hot 100, and "What About Us" reached No. 14 R&B.

The album holds the first album appearances by Timbaland, with Magoo, and by Missy Elliott, credited as Misdemeanor, on "In the Meanwhile," "Won't Waste You" and "Sweaty"; Redman joins on "You Got It." Recording engineer Prince Charles Alexander has said that on "Feenin'" DeVanté meant to "play the Talk box like Roger Troutman."
