Limited Orange Vinyl LP

This is the 2020 reissue of Blow By Blow on a single orange LP, issued by Sony Music under the Epic and Legacy logos with catalog number 19439792331. A hype sticker on the jacket names the orange color, and the back cover states the record was made in the EU, with Sony Music Entertainment International Services in Gütersloh, Germany, as the record company. Banquet Records lists it as part of the We Are Vinyl "Guitar Heroes" reissue series, and both Banquet and Juno describe the orange run as limited.

The sleeve carries the 1975 credits in full. George Martin produced and wrote the orchestral arrangements, Denim Bridges engineered, and the sessions took place at AIR Studios in London. Beck plays guitar alongside Max Middleton on keyboards, Phil Chen on bass and Richard Bailey on drums and percussion, and John Berg designed the jacket around cover art by John Collier.

Blow by Blow was the first album credited to Beck as a solo artist. Recorded in October 1974 and released by Epic in March 1975, it reached No. 4 on the Billboard 200, remains his highest-charting album and was certified platinum by the RIAA. Beck hired Martin after hearing his production on the Mahavishnu Orchestra's Apocalypse. Stevie Wonder gave him two songs, "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" and "Thelonius", and the first is dedicated on the sleeve to guitarist Roy Buchanan, with thanks to Stevie. The record also covers the Beatles' "She's A Woman" and closes on Bernie Holland's "Diamond Dust", and Martin's strings appear on the last track of each side.
