Asylum Records released Running On Empty in 1977 as 6E-113, and this copy was pressed by PRC Recording Company in Compton, California. PRC-W appears on both center labels, which is how this Compton pressing is told apart from the Specialty Records Corporation pressing of 6E-113 made the same year.

The object

This 6E-113 is one LP with a printed inner sleeve and a full-size eight-page booklet. The inner sleeve records that the album was mixed at Sound Factory in Los Angeles and mastered at A&M, where the mastering is credited to Bernie Grundman. Every runout on this pressing is etched with the catalog number and the side, 6E-113 A or 6E-113 B, some stampers reading 6Z-113 instead.
