Relapse Records lists this milky clear pressing with rainbow splatter as the third press of Crossover Ministry, after a second press of 500 black copies. The first press in 2017 ran to 3,300 black copies alongside colored runs that included a band tour exclusive, two Relapse.com exclusives and a baby pink European retail edition. Relapse's product image for this pressing shows a printed lyric insert with the jacket.

The album came out on Relapse on February 3, 2017, with 18 songs in about half an hour. Guitarist Phil Hall recorded it in the summer of 2016 at Blaze of Torment Studios in Richmond, Virginia, Kurt Ballou mixed it at GodCity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts, and Brad Boatright mastered it. The cover art is by David "Bonethrower" Cook, with design by Orion Landau.

Tony Foresta sang, with Mark Bronzino on lead guitar, Hall on rhythm guitar, Rob Skotis on bass and Ryan Parrish on drums, and Dave Wood, Andreas Sandberg and Marissa Paternoster added guest vocals. Much of the lyric sheet deals in social and political commentary, and the title track, "Megachurch" and "Dogsnotgods" take aim at organized religion.

Crossover Ministry was Iron Reagan's third full-length and their second for Relapse. It reached No. 4 on Billboard's Heatseekers Albums chart, No. 8 on Vinyl Albums and No. 23 on Independent Albums.
