Hannah Cole - Switchbacks (Purple Vinyl)

This is the violet vinyl pressing of Switchbacks, the debut album from Hannah Cole, issued by Tight Knit Records under catalog number KNIT1. All ten tracks sit on a single 12-inch LP. Distributors list the color as purple, and the packshot shows a solid violet disc.

Cole and her longtime collaborator Josef Kuhn recorded the album in their home studio across 2024 and 2025, playing nearly every instrument between them, and Sonny DiPerri, whose credits include American Football and Wisp, mixed it. The label places the record between shoegaze and alternative rock, with pop melodies and a thread of 1990s nostalgia.

The title borrows the image of a mountain road's switchbacks, turns that hide what lies ahead, as a figure for finding a way through the music industry. In the label's notes, lead single "MMA" takes on the industry's uglier side through the image of Las Vegas, and Cole has cited Joan Didion's Play It As It Lays as an inspiration. On "Give" she sings about becoming an actor and climbing upward; "Mechanical Bull" addresses being seen as only "the girlfriend" in music settings rather than as her partner's equal; "Pitcher" turns on perfectionism; and "100 Bucks" sets the need to impress aside. "Success is a moment that comes and goes," Cole has said, "but I think the joy and experience that comes with making music is something I can take with me forever."

Cole grew up in Covington, Louisiana, began writing and singing at six, and moved to Nashville in 2019 for school. Before Switchbacks she released two EPs, Big Bite in 2023 and Glisten in 2024.
