Rhino Reserve 180-Gram Vinyl Cut From the Original Analog Master

This is the Rhino Reserve pressing of Summertime Dream, issued on July 24, 2026 in Rhino's Spirit of '76 campaign, which brought back 23 albums from 1976 for their 50th anniversaries through select independent record stores. Matthew Lutthans cut the lacquers from the original analog master at The Mastering Lab, and Fidelity Record Pressing in Oxnard, California, pressed the record on 180-gram vinyl. A red Rhino Reserve sticker on the front of the jacket notes the analog-tape source, and the catalog number is RES1 2246.

Summertime Dream was Lightfoot's eleventh studio album, first issued by Reprise in 1976. He produced it with Lenny Waronker at Eastern Sound Studios in Toronto, with Ken Friesen engineering and Lee Herschberg mixing, and every song on it is his own. It reached No. 1 on Canada's RPM album chart and No. 12 on the Billboard pop chart.

"The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," which recounts the final hours of the iron ore freighter that sank on Lake Superior in November 1975, went to No. 1 in Canada and No. 2 on the US pop chart. "Race Among the Ruins" also reached the US pop chart, at No. 65.

Lightfoot sings and plays six- and 12-string guitars, joined by Terry Clements on lead acoustic and electric guitars, Pee Wee Charles on steel guitar, Rick Haynes on bass and Barry Keane on drums and percussion. Gene Martynec adds Moog synthesizer, and Jim Gordon plays drums on "The House You Live In."
