"bad taste" reached an audience before it reached a studio. Hollywood Records traces the song to Freya Skye's first headlining acoustic performance, in New York, after which it stayed in the set through the early legs of the Stars Align Tour. The studio recording was released on September 16, 2026, the video a day later, and this 7-inch on September 18.

The pressing carries the studio version on the A-side and an acoustic version of the same song on the B-side, on translucent red vinyl. A printed insert carries the lyrics to both.

Skye represented the United Kingdom at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2022 with "Lose My Head," placing fifth. Her debut EP, Stardust, arrived on Hollywood Records on February 4, 2026 and reached No. 35 in the UK, No. 6 in Scotland, No. 21 in Australia and No. 74 in the US. The single "Silent Treatment" charted at No. 18 in the UK, No. 7 in Canada and No. 88 in the US.

The Stars Align Tour ran to 62 shows between February 6 and November 28, 2026, across three legs: the UK and North America, then Oceania, then Europe and North America.
