This is the independent-retail pressing of Amulet, the second album from Freak Slug: one LP on snake skin gold colored vinyl, in a single jacket with a printed inner sleeve, issued by Future Classic under catalog number FCL730LP2. The album was also released on black vinyl and on CD.

Freak Slug is the project of Manchester musician Xenya Genovese. After a run of EPs she released her debut album, I Blow Out Big Candles, on Future Classic on November 8, 2024, produced by Alex Headford and recorded in Manchester and London. By then she had played End of the Road, The Great Escape, Blue Dot and Green Man, and had supported Dope Lemon and Yumi Zouma.

Amulet was written across sessions in London and Los Angeles with her longtime collaborator, producer Dylan Neustadter. The label's notes describe a record that digs into a past life uncovered in a spiritual reading, setting a medieval landscape of religious tyranny against women in "Big Boy" beside its echoes in the present on "Black Eyes," "Jade Green" and "Wishing Bone," with a sound the label places somewhere between The Breeders and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Genovese has said of it: "This album is more me. I've been able to have the space to just be myself."

"Girl, Intentions" was the first single, released July 9, 2026, which she described as exploring "the inner turmoil of a woman." "If I Could" followed in August, and a visualizer for "Wishing Bone" arrived with the album.
