Frankie Rose - Hila (Clear & Green Vinyl)

Clear With Green Center Vinyl LP

This is Born Losers Records' color-in-color edition of Hila: clear vinyl with a green center, pressed as a single LP of ten tracks. Born Losers also issues the album on black vinyl and on CD, and Night School Records releases it in the UK and Europe.

Frankie Rose self-produced Hila at her home studio, with further recording at Treuhand Brooklyn. Justin Welch, of Elastica and Lush, plays drums, with Jake Vest on bass, Ian Campbell and Chris Rager on guitars, and Jeff Tobias and Matthew Friedlander on saxophones. Brandt Gassman contributed additional production, Trey Frye mixed the record and Josh Bonati mastered it. According to the label, the album was made after extensive touring with The Jesus and Mary Chain and Swervedriver.

Rose introduces it in her own words: "Hila. A record about loss. What persists beyond the range of ordinary perception?" Born Losers' notes set it against her previous album, Love As Projection, and name later Coil, Skinny Puppy and Cocteau Twins among its reference points, along with saxophone and digital synthesis in the vein of the Blue Nile. "Cant Be Wrong" was the first single, and "Manifest" followed with an official video.

Before her solo records, Rose played drums as an original member of Crystal Stilts and Dum Dum Girls, and was also a founding member of Vivian Girls. Her 2012 album Interstellar, released on Slumberland, was named Best New Music by Pitchfork. She is based in Brooklyn.
