Indie Exclusive Limited Edition Clear Vinyl

This is the independent-retail exclusive of A Very Lonely Solstice: a single LP pressed on clear vinyl, issued by Anti- in the US on July 1, 2022 under catalog number 87902-1. The exclusive carries its own UPC on a sticker applied to the shrinkwrap, while the barcode printed on the jacket belongs to the standard edition. A round sticker on the front marks the run as Limited Edition Colored Vinyl. All 13 performances fit on two sides, seven on side A and six on side B, for a running time of 45:02.

A Very Lonely Solstice is the first live album by Fleet Foxes. Robin Pecknold recorded it alone with a nylon-string guitar inside St. Ann & the Holy Trinity Church in Brooklyn in December 2020, and the pre-recorded concert film was livestreamed at 9 pm ET on December 21, 2020, the night of the winter solstice. Anti-'s release notes quote Pecknold describing the set as "me by myself on the longest night of the year." The Resistance Revival Chorus, a collective of women and nonbinary singers, joins him on the opening "Wading In Waist-High Water."

The songs come from all four Fleet Foxes studio albums, from the 2008 self-titled debut ("Tiger Mountain Peasant Song") through Helplessness Blues and Crack-Up to 2020's Shore, the band's first album for Anti-. Alongside them sit the traditional ballad "Silver Dagger" and a cover of "In The Morning." The album is dedicated to Sam Jayne of Love as Laughter.

Anti- released the album digitally on December 10, 2021, the same day the concert film was posted to YouTube, and the vinyl and CD editions followed on July 1, 2022. "Can I Believe You" and "Wading In Waist-High Water" had already been paired on a Record Store Day 7-inch on July 17, 2021. The album reached No. 8 on the UK Independent Albums chart and No. 35 on the Scottish Albums chart. Uncut's Peter Watts rated it 8 out of 10, and Kitty Empire wrote in The Observer that Pecknold "lights up this bleakest of winters."
